About Antonio Ribas Jiménez-Alfaro (Antón)

Naval Officer of profession initiates his artistic formation at the age of eleven, from the hand of his mother, made-keen of painting, who puts him the "small worm" for the paint brushes.

.

Whenever the exercise of its profession leaves him, one points to receive classes of formation, at first, and by improving later.

In Ferrol, 1979, he took oil classes from Antonio Fernandez, afterwards, kept on, 1982, in Cartagena in the Arts Academy sited in “Del Aire” street. In Cadiz two years later, 1984, continued receiving oil classes in the School of Arts and Crafts.

 

It´s not until 1992/93 when started to receive Watercolour classes from the prestigious Canarian watercolourist Master Pablo Martín Madera, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

In September 1995, in Madrid, he becomes a member of the Circle of Fine Arts, and during the fall of this year, he went, almost every day, to do and study charcoal draw techniques.

 

During his assignment in the fleet tanker "Marqués de La Ensenada" as Executive Officer (XO), 1997/1998, it happened that the Commanding Officer of the ship was Juan Ollero, very well-known watercolourist, and kept with him his watercolour education in what they called the “Watercolour workshop on board “.

In between of the years 1998 and 2000, he received charcoal, oil and pastel classes in the In between of the years 1998 and 2000, he received charcoal, oil and pastel classes in the painting Studio of Master Jose Luis Onecha, in Avila street, in Madrid.

In this frame period, some of his pastels and watercolours are auctioned in the Duran Art Gallery in Serrano Street number 12, Madrid.

 

He is assigned to NAVSOUTH HQ, in Nísida, Naples since Sept 2001 till July 2004, and at this time, he goes on painting watercolours and take part in an international joint exhibition with his Marine colleagues from various countries.

  • From 20th to 27th April 2018 with the Art Group. Library in Athlone. Ireland

  • From 17th to 23rd December 2018 with the Art Group in the Commercial Town Centre, Athlone, Ireland.

       

Awards;

 

  • 2nd Prize Virgen del Carmen awards 2006, May, Organized by Spanish Navy. Oil and Acrylic work (160x114 cms), ”Almirante Juan de Borbón Frigate”.

  • First awarded in the 17ª call of literary and artistic prizes of the headquarters of the DEFENCE DEPARTMENT in December 2013. Watercolour work “(23x 32). “The best moment of the day”.  This picture hangs gained(earned) the first prize of the Defense Department in 2013 is hung on some of the corridors of the above-mentioned Department.

  • A picture rewarded for acquisition (70x100 cms) in the National painting contest 2016, in the Social Institute of the Armed Forces (ISFAS) (acronym in Spanish).

  • There are watercolour works scattered among some Navy warships where I have been assigned on-board. Among these ships, “BH Rigel”, “Las Palmas”, “Marqués de la Ensenada” y “Centinela”.  He also has works distributed in private collections.
