I owe both aspects of my current profession and vocation to my parents; thanks to my father, my profession, and also vocation, as a naval officer, whilst the purely amateur, and why not vocational as well, as a painter, to the influence of my mother.

The proof of this can be seen in the oil paintings on the next page that feature the “Port Sport Hotel” in Sóller, Mallorca, where I spent part of my childhood and where thanks to my mother’s influence, at the tender age of nine years old, I made my first brushstrokes and began to stain fabric with turpentine and oils.

Later on in life, and when my job allowed it, it only made sense that I should take advantage of the times when I was not at sea but serving ashore on dry land to paint; this was the icing on the cake for me, as I could attend classes every week on a regular basis without disruptions or postponements.

I have studied the use of oils, pastels and charcoal in the capital cities of all the Spanish naval maritime zones: in El Ferrol, Cadiz, Cartagena, Las Palmas (only watercolours here) and of course also Madrid. And the results can be seen on the following pages.

It is with great joy that I embarked on this project via the internet to make my work more visibly widespread and I really do hope that you like what you see on the website.

I would like to express my appreciation to my wife Bocha, my number one critic, for her constant support and above all for the way in which she has provided the time, space and conditions that have allowed me to spend time each week to paint, even when the children were small and demanding lots of attention.

Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to my friend and colleague Paco Garau who, in addition to offering me so much encouragement is also the creator and driving force behind this website.

With kind regards to everyone,     Antón
